Choosing Activities

Like everyone else, children and young people with additional needs and/or disabilities should have a social life and take part in activities they enjoy. Like everyone else you as a parent will want to know that they will be welcome, safe and supported.

Your child has the same right to access activities as other children. There will need to be a partnership between the activity provider and yourself to ensure that your child has the very best care possible.

Support to help overcome barriers to leisure time activities

The Short Breaks Service can offer advice and support to help overcome any barriers to disabled children and young people accessing the basic offer of three hours per week leisure time activities. This may include help with staff training, transport or accessing a range of targeted and specialist services for disabled children with more severe and complex needs.
