Five tips for anyone thinking about using skunk

  1. You don’t have to smoke skunk! finding other, less risky, forms of cannabis can be hard; but it’s better to use something else if you can find it. But remember also you don’t have to smoke weed at all. You won’t necessarily enjoy it, and it is still illegal in this country
  2. Avoid smoking skunk if you feel low, anxious, unhappy or unwell. It won’t make you feel better and you will probably end up feeling worse. You should especially avoid it if you have a family history of mental illness, or if you have experienced mental illness yourself
  3. If you are going to smoke skunk: be careful, put as little in your zoot as possible, don’t take more than one drag at a time, and don’t hold the smoke down for too long before exhaling
  4. If you have been smoking skunk and you start to feel uncomfortable, STOP: feeling edgy, nervous, paranoid, or fearful are all signs that the drug might be affecting your mental health. The symptoms will probably disappear when the effect of the drug wears off, so try to relax, tell someone how you feel, get out of the situation if you need to and it’s safe to do so, and above all don’t be tempted to keep smoking in the hope that it will make you feel better. It is much more likely to make things worse.
  5. Don’t smoke it too often: the risks of skunk cannabis are greatly reduced if you only use it occasionally and balance it with a healthy lifestyle that takes in daily exercise and a good diet. The biggest mistake with cannabis is to use it every day. It won’t help at all with your feelings, and it will make it much harder for you to sort out the problems affecting you and your life.
