Packington Children's Centre

Packington Children's Centre has two nursery sites, with one in Popham Road and another off Ecclesbourne Road - both just five minutes' walk from Essex Road station.

Our nursery on Popham Road has been awarded 'Outstanding' twice in the last five years and has 25 places for children aged 3 months to 3 years. Bentham Court, Packington's newest nursery received an 'Outstanding' Ofsted report in March 2018. The Bentham Court nursery provides an addiitonal 35 full-time, high quality day care and education for children aged 2-5 years. Both nurseries are very popular with parents and provide children with a rich learning environment.

We host an open morning/tour of the nursery for new parents on the last Friday of every month. Booking is essential for this tour. You can also take a virtual tour of the Popham Road site or the Bentham Court site.

The Centre is popular and prioritises children on whether the child: is at risk or in need; has special educational needs; lives in Islington; lives close to the nursery; is the right age for the space available; has parents who are working or studying full-time.

You can apply for a place at a children’s centre by either collecting an application form from the centre or phoning and asking for one to be emailed to you. You can then return it in person or email back. If your child is offered a place, an admissions meeting will be arranged where you can bring in the relevant paperwork (proof of address etc) and the administrator will help you with the forms that need to be signed.

Centres are not offering tours at this time but you can see the rooms through a virtual tour and/or photo leaflets. If you would like any more information about protective measures in place at the centres to minimise risk of transmission of Covid-19 or curriculum practice and provision in general, please phone and ask to speak to the Head or Executive Head who will be happy to speak with you.

Local Offer

How will you support my child?

Our SENCO is fully trained to Level 4 and has extensive experience. Our full staff team are highly experienced and trained; all use Makaton sign language and PECS to support communication with children.

We have wide experience of working with children with complex needs, in particular we have adapted one of our nursery sites to support children with hearing impairment by installing acoustic panels.

We run small language groups on both our nursery sites and also deliver more specialist Chatterpillars and Little Leaps groups for children with more complex speech and language needs.

The children's centre has a named speech and language therapist and CAMHS worker and we have excellent link with our health visiting team.
