Islington Mind – Mother2Mother Carers Support Project
Up to 90% of people with mental health conditions live with relatives who provide them with long-term practical and emotional support. Due to common prejudices and misunderstandings about mental health, carers are less likely to discuss caring with friends and family or go to professionals for help, meaning that they can end up isolated and trying to cope alone.
Islington Mind’s Mother2Mother project offers a safe therapeutic space to mothers and guardians of people with mental health problems where they can connect to each other and to local resources and opportunities, develop self-management strategies, improve understanding of mental health diagnoses and psychiatric medications, reduce risk of isolation and loneliness, and improve confidence, empowerment levels, independence, and self-esteem.
The project opens every Monday 12:00pm– 5:00pm and offers opportunities to socialise, activities such as yoga, a group therapy and day-outs, alongside with ad-hoc one-to-one practical and emotional support. Lunch is available (£2.50-£3.00) from 1:00pm – 2:00pm
