King Square Community Nursery

The nursery offers opportunities for investigation, choice and expression with a wide range of equipment and activities for learning and play. We also provide weekly sessions of yoga, football and drama, all facilitated by professional outside teachers and free to all children. Forest School is our new project and we have secured 4 seasons with a ranger at Barnsbury Woods. Children and parents  also make visits to Highgate Wood. We extend this weekly by visiting local parks.

Local Offer

How will you support my child?

Our setting welcomes children with SEND and we are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. Our Islington link Area SENCO provides us with support, advice and training regarding children with SEND.

Our SENCO has attained the Level 3 SENCO Award, is a Level 3 Early Years Practitioner, and has had extensive training on children with autism, behaviour management, early identification of additional need and inclusive practice.

All staff in the setting have had training on children with behavioural difficulties, sensory disorders, autism, Makaton and how to identify early speech, language and communication difficulties. All staff work with the Assess, Plan, Do, Review model.

We have worked with many children over the years with additional needs ranging from mild to complex.  All staff have had training on how to identify a child with additional needs and how to move forward.

At King Square we have a great deal of experience working with parents and outside agencies of creating child centred Short term Plans and Education Healthcare Plans. We signpost parents to children's centres for Little Leaps and Chatterpillar sessions, along with any other relevant support they may need.

All children with a special educational need, whether that be around their speech and language, behaviour difficulties or autism, for example, will receive special time with their key person every day working towards small, achievable targets to help them make steady progress. Parents are fully involved in all stages of the target setting and reviews.

We have strong links with our Health Visiting Team, our Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist and Educational Psychologists. We also signpost parent/carers to local support groups for children with additional needs and support groups for parents.
