Befriending Matters

ARE YOU OVER 50? COULD YOU BE A BEFRIENDER  TO OLDER PEOPLE?
You can make a difference to the quality of life of lonely and isolated older people by committing 2-3 hours every week.

Befriending Matters is a project where volunteers over 50 provide support to the older over 60s who might be at risk of being socially isolated or vulnerable members of the community by offering a friendly voice through regular phone calls. Or you can visit someone at their place of living and provide support.

We will train you and do your DBS check, we will match you with a befriendee. We will provide ongoing support, both individually as well as you can benefit from group peer support.
This can be a rewarding experience as you could help an older person reconnect socially and provide companionship to lonely isolated people over 65. You could support someone with the much needed emotional support by speaking to them regularly on the telephone by having a a friendly chat or by visiting them. Either way you could build some truly meaningful relationships and give something back within your community.

We will reimburse agreed expenses.
